Welcome to SHARKS FOR LIFE! The name says it all to those who are in the know. To those who are not let me introduce you to the most important issue that you will ever discover!
My name is Erik Brush. I am an artist, speaker, and shark conservationist as well as the author of "The Sixth Extinction". It is the true story of the greatest crime in the history of the planet, and one that will kill off between 87-93% of all life on planet Earth within the next 40-100 years.
Unless radical changes take place on a rapid level it is quite possible that you and your children could be the last 2 generations of humans to dwell on this world. This is not science fiction or alarmism. It is not religious prophecy, or a sinister plot.
Rather it is science fact and it centers around three groups of animals. The Elasmobranchs ( Sharks, Skates, and Rays ) and the Cetaceans ( Whales, Porpoises, and Dolphins ) as well as humans. Often described as the primate gone bad, it is humanity that is readily destroying the natural world.
But nature suffers fools seldom and it is only a matter of time now before humans in their greed and wrecklessness push nature too far! And when nature pushes back it is mankind that will pay for their ultimate stupidity. Unfortunately so too will billions of our fellow life forms.
There is the perception that this planet and her oceans produce endless resources and that these may be harvested and taken at the will and need of humanity without any thought of controls or destruction. But the path of brutality that mankind now follows as it presses hard the sharks especially, is one of deadly consequence. Not only for the sharks we kill, but for all of the world.
Sharks are being hunted down without mercy or limits to supply the sharkfin soup trade with it's much covetted prize. A status symbol without medical benefit or taste, this delicacey means big money to greedy fishermen, and the annual death of over 100 MILLION sharks! Every minute 190.2 sharks are killed. Their fins often cut off of the live animals and bodies tossed back into the ocean to die!
A brutal act that affects us all! Why? Because sharks and cetaceans are the 2 appex predator groups of the oceans! They consume a vast number of small fish and crustaceans which in turn eat green plants, algae, and phytoplankton!
These are the providers of oxygen and controllers of carbon dioxide. The worlds oceans produce over 70% of our oxygen and control over 80% of harmful carbon gas. Without sharks and cetaceans to control their numbers the small fish and crustaceans will experience a population boom that will cause them to consume all of this vital life line! And when this happens we will all die! The oceans control weather, temperature, precipitation cycles, as well as providing us with a sustainable atmosphere. And housed in the cooled depths are large deposits of suspended liquid called methane hydrate. Slightly heavier than salt water it will remain in a liquid state only until it is heated up 2-3 more degrees. But once that happens it will revert to a gas and escape into the atmosphere! Methane gas will destroy the ozone layer, and without our protective layer from the UV radiation of the sun, most life will cease to exist as plants are killed, atmosphere becomes unbreathable, and food resources vanish. It is not too late to stop it! But we must act quickly if we are to affect a strong change. This is a problem that affects everyone on Earth no matter who you are, where you live, and what you do! For the sake of your future and your children, please join the fight to help save sharks as well as the rest of the world! EVERY voice matters! Every effort counts! Thank you for taking the time to read this and learn the truth. - Erik Brush
UGLY MATH
Sharks killed by man annually:
100,000,000+

Sharks killed by man every day:
273,972.6+

Sharks killed by man every hour:
11,415.5+

Sharks killed by man every minute:
190.2+

Of the approximately 100 million sharks killed each year, 73 million are killed ONLY for their fins!
By way of comparison Sharks have bitten (attacked) approximately 70 people a year on average. Most of these were mistaken identity in shallow murkey water, and average human deaths are from 1- 5.

WELCOME TO ALL SEA SHEPHERDS AND SHARKS FOR LIFE GROUP MEMBERS!
ALSO WELCOME TO ALL SEA RANGERS & IMEC OFFICERS! IT IS GOOD HAVING YOU ON THE SITE. WE WILL CONTINUE TO EXPAND AS WE GO.
Welcome to Sharks for Life!  This shark conservation group began in 2008 and has been building a membership and support base ever since. Sharks for Life members have been directly involved in major shark conservation initiatives. Campaigns range from local, to national and international shark protection efforts. We have successfully assisted in taking on corporate giants such as Citi-bank Hong Kong, & Disneyland, to various Nations. We have worked to promote and encourage support of programs such as the Shark Free Marinas program, Stop Shark Finning, and the establishment of shark fin bans and protective legislation in Hawaii, California, Oregon, & Washington. We aid and assist affiliate NGOs and private parties whenever possible or where a need has been shown. Sharks for Life is growing all the time and welcomes new members & supporters! Thanks!
